Why this blog?

The idea of creating this blog was mooted by filmmaker Bappaditya Bandyopadhyay during a telephonic conversation with his colleague Subrata Sen.

Both of them agreed that filmmakers in Bangla, specially those still believe in the concept of alternative/ parallel films, needed to have a blog of their own.

This is a blog for everyone. For filmmakers, for aspiring filmmakers, for people who love Bengali alternative cinema and even for those who hate them.

This is the place to idolize, to de-iconize, to praise, to abuse. All for the cause of cinema.

No holds barred, no censors.

Please feel free to write for this blog. Send your contributions to filmwallah@gmail.com

Posts will be updated from time to time.

Very nice concept! But I think people should talk freely (not politically) even if they are related to Bengali film industry.

That's the idea Kousani. But again, it's a free forum and it will be the contributor's choice. :-)

Novel concept. But how would you differentiate between parrallel/alternative cinema and mainstream cinema (cinema makers)?
I understand what you intend but tell me how would you classify 10:10?

I have no clue about 10:10.
And I am not to here to say that films which are not commercial success are parallel/ alternative cinema.

Now, in this context, it's a great idea to actually define what parallel cinema is...

Why cant someone take the lead?

I wanted to ask the question, about the difference between parallel and commercial Bengali Film! But it's so cliché, this question has been asked and answered so many times!
Most simplified ans which I have got is a film which release in Minar, Bijoli, Chhobighar is commercial! And rest is parallel, which are mostly shot in location rather than in a studio with a set.

Wonderful initiative!! Such a platform was long due. I loved that it has been made inclusive with scope for audience members like me to contribute, besides posting remarks. Would like to feature it on my blog Kolkata Curry in due course.
